USDA Section 504 Home Repair Loans & Grants
Published status: USDA lists the application window as open and accepts applications year-round. Timing depends on funding availability.
- Who may qualify?
- Homeowners who occupy the property, meet applicable county income limits, cannot obtain affordable credit elsewhere, and have an eligible rural address. Grants additionally require age 62 or older and very-low income.
- What repairs?
- Loans may support repairs, improvements, or modernization. Grants address health and safety hazards. Ask USDA whether your specific foundation, structural, or moisture-related work qualifies.
- How to start
- Use the official program page to check address eligibility and find the Rural Development office serving your county. Ask about prequalification, required documentation, funding, and whether work must be approved before it begins.
Missouri · local participating agencies
MHDC Home Repair Opportunity (HeRO)
Published status: MHDC provides program information and a participating-agency directory. Local application openings, waitlists, and remaining funds must be confirmed with the agency.
- Who may qualify?
- Income-qualifying single-family homeowners in an administering agency’s service area. The agency determines household and property eligibility.
- What repairs?
- The program supports non-cosmetic home repair. Describe your foundation or other repair concern to the agency and ask whether it is within its current scope.
- How to start
- Open MHDC’s program page and select “Participating Agencies.” Contact an agency covering your county. MHDC does not award this funding directly to households. Ask how to apply, what documentation is needed, and how contractors are selected.
